This dissertation introduces an unexplored dimension to both histories of sub-continental Pan-Asianism and the women’s rights movement in India, specifically in terms of introducing a link between the two. Thus far, scholarship about Indic Pan-Asianism tells us that the impetus to imagine and construct a continental civilizational identity came primarily out of the pens of nineteenth century Hindu middle and upper class men with cosmopolitan sensibilities.
